Bharat Ratna for M S Swaminathan,The Father of Green Revolution in India.

(“A Hungry person listens neither to person, nor to religion, nor is bent by any power”.) the word of Swaminathan during receiving Raman Magsaysay Award.

       

The Father of Green Revolution in India, M S Swaminathan has been conferred BHARAT RATNA (the highest civilian award of  The Republic of India).

Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan was born on 7 August 1925 at kumbakoman of district Tanjavur( then tanjore of madras presidency during British India) Tamulnadu India.

Swaminathan was an Indian Agronomist,Agricultural Scientist,Plant Geneticist,Administrator, Humanitarian and a global leader of Green Revolution. He is called The “Father of Green Revolution “in India for his leadership and role in introducing and further developing high yield variety of Rice and Wheat  and saved to people of India from certain famine like situation in rhe 1960s.

Swaminathan contributed basic research related to Potatoes, Rice and Wheat, in area such as cytogenetics, ionizing radiation and radiosensitivity
